Report sets the stage for series of hearings and investigation

WASHINGTON — The House Administration Oversight Subcommittee today released the initial report on its investigation into the events of January 6, 2021. Tomorrow, the Committee will begin its series of hearings examining the events of January 6. Today’s report sets the stage for the rest of the investigation and a final report to be released later this year.

Speaker Johnson statement:

“This House Administration Oversight Subcommittee investigation is necessary to correct the incomplete narrative advanced by the partisan Select Committee on the January 6 Attack, and today’s initial report is an important step in that process. House Republicans will carefully fulfill our constitutional responsibilities in the course of this ongoing investigation and its upcoming hearings, and we commend Chairman Steil, Chairman Loudermilk and the subcommittee for their commitment to ensuring there is full transparency surrounding the events of January 6.”

Subcommittee Chairman Loudermilk statement:

“For nearly two years former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s January 6th Select Committee promoted hearsay and cherry-picked information to promote its political goal – to legislatively prosecute former President Donald Trump. It was no surprise that the Select Committee’s final report focused primarily on former President Trump and his supporters, not the security failures and reforms needed to ensure the United States Capitol is safer today than in 2021.

“The American people deserve the entire truth about what caused the violent breach at the United States Capitol of January 6, 2021. It is unfortunate the Select Committee succumbed to their political inclinations and chased false narratives instead of providing the important work of a genuine investigation. In my committee’s investigation, it is my objective to uncover the facts about January 6, without political bias or spin. My report today is just thebeginning.”

Background:

  • On Tuesday March 12, the Committee will hold its first hearing of the investigation. The hearing will be focused on the investigation into the January 6 pipe bombs.
  • Committee hearings will continue throughout the year and will conclude with a final report before the end of the year.
  • On Friday March 1, the Committee released 5,000 additional hours of U.S. Capitol security footage from January 6, 2021.
  • The House Committee on Administration will continue to release the remaining footage online as expeditiously as possible so that it is accessible to every American. Footage will continue to be reviewed to ensure it does not expose sensitive security information.
  • A one-pager on the report can be found here.
